Bitonto – Italy

A lifelong lover of photography, he began his real photographic journey about six years ago. She attended her first courses and, after acquiring the basics, enrolled in an advanced training course at the Spazio Tempo school in Bari. Initially focused on landscape photography, she tried her hand at macro but loved portraiture. In the last year she opened her eyes and heart to street. She is always fascinated by contrasts of light, shadows, backlighting, rain, fog, all factors that she finds on the street and that make a difference in a photograph.

The Project

The Feast of the Medical Saints

The rite is repeated punctually every third Sunday in October, the feast dedicated to the Santi Medici is the moment when the Bitontine community comes together and opens its arms to the outsiders who, in great numbers, flock to the statues’ feet. City heritage brings with it culture and traditions that are handed down from father to son. In the faces of the crowd, stories of bodily and spiritual suffering that place hope of healing in Cosmas and Damian. As the procession passes through the city, wax marks its passage, impossible to ignore those who choose to live their faith with humility, barefoot and covered in dripping wax.
