Daniela Dluhošová

Poprad – Slovakia

Born in the town of Poprad, near the beautiful High Tatra mountains in Slovakia, she began taking photographs 10 years ago thanks to a friend, from whom she learned and continues to learn a lot. In addition to photography, horses and everything about them are her greatest passion. As an assistant trainer at Jiří Valiska’s stud farm, for the past eight years he has been making videos of training sessions and competitions by photographing and training sports riders. Another genre of photography he devotes himself to is street and art photography. Although colour photography certainly has its merits, his priority is black and white photography because of its inherent ability to capture the expression and atmosphere of a shot. He loves travelling and being in nature. Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic, is his favourite place for street photography. He really likes the thought of Mark Twain who said: ‘We cannot rely on our eyes when our imagination is out of focus’.

The Project

Horses, successes and failures.

In 2017, Jiøí Valiska, a trainer of sports jockeys and parkour jumping horses, offered her to collaborate in his stable. The collaboration consists of making videos during races and training sessions and she enthusiastically accepted the offer. Throughout this period she got to know better the superb beauty of horses and the whole equestrian world. While shooting I try to capture the joy of success but also the disappointment of defeat; the emotions and behaviour of horses in different situations. In this way I witness the successes and failures. Experiencing moments and caring for horses as companions in sport and life teaches young riders, but also teaches us grown-up people to be better people: ‘What you give, you will get back’. That is why he dedicates so much love and passion to this job.
